Adolphos Knecht is a former chapter master of the Knights of Adarnum, now the leader of the Skinchangers and one of the secret magnates of the Knights Mercantile.

Knecht and his servants have spent the last century and a half in a twisted quest to redeem their corrupted flesh and return to the light of Kirva. To do so, they have maimed, flayed, tortured and murdered countless hundreds, instigated wars and despoiled ancient ruins and crypts, all in an increasingly desperate and delusional effort to find some means of purifying themselves. As the hopelessness of this quest grows apparent even to Knecht and his twisted inner circle of fellow Skinchangers, they have turned instead to a form of cosmic vigilantism, hoping for absolution by rooting out and destroying those they perceive to be the enemies of Kirva and Adarnum.
Their methods remain no less horrific, and those few who know the history of the Skinchangers (outside the sect itself) have come to suspect that their curse may serve sinister aims beyond merely punishing an arrogant company of knights. Who or what manipulates Knecht and his kind remains uncertain, but his is either a madness beyond tragedy, or a blindness wrought by something beyond mortal reckoning. Most likely, both.
